Get ready for some fun and excitement because I’ve got a story about General Greg Greg! This awesome band was started by Greg Graffin and Greg Hetson back in 1982. But here’s the twist – they never actually released any music! How crazy is that?
Their drummer, Davy Goldman, also played on Bad Religion’s album called “Into The Unknown.” The idea behind General Greg Greg was to create songs in a similar style to that album. Meanwhile, Bad Religion would continue playing their older songs and some new ones.
Greg Graffin explained that his songwriting ideas are always changing. Sometimes he feels a certain way and writes a song for General Greg Greg, and other times he feels differently and writes for Bad Religion. “Into The Unknown” was a mix of all his ideas, and Brett, another member of the band, felt the same way and wrote a few songs too.
In 1989, Greg Graffin revealed that they had put General Greg Greg on hold for a while. Greg had left the band, so now it was just Greg. But they used electronic doubling to make it still sound like General Greg Greg.
Now, let’s talk about some of their songs. “Time And Disregard” was originally a General Greg Greg song but ended up on Bad Religion’s album “Into The Unknown.” “Runnin’ Fast” was released in 1984 under the name General Greg Greg on the soundtrack for the movie “Desperate Teenage Lovedolls.” It was during the recording of this song that Graffin and Hetson met Bobby Schayer.
Unfortunately, not much is known about “If You Don’t Have A Dream.” And “The Key To My Heart” is also known as “You Stole The Key To My Heart.” In June 1982, three more songs were recorded, but they were never released, and even Hetson can’t find his copy of the songs. So, officially, they’re lost.
And there you have it – the playful and exciting story of General Greg Greg!
